watermark: Hiding a copyright notice in a program or image to help detect piracy. If every copy of the program has a different watermark, that is called "fingerprinting". It allows tracing the legitimate owner of a pirated copy. Watermarks survive even code optimisation, obfuscation and a fair bit of program change. Ideally they don't slow the program down. One such system is called SandMark.
