A scheme of printing US postage on envelopes using an ordinary laser printer. A two dimensional bar code encodes:

The destination ZIP Code.
The amount of postage applied.
The date and time the envelope was posted.
A digital signature so that the Post Office can validate the authenticity of the postage.

There is also a FIM barcode for sorting mail, and human-readable information such as the amount of postage and the originating city.

The cost is 10% of the postage used with a $2 minimum and a $20 monthly maxiumum. There is an optional digital scale that hooks to your PC that works with the software. You buy postage with your credit card over the Internet. It is not clear if you must be connected to the Internet when printing postage.
