soother: A diskette or CD containing a sufficient number of files so that you can coax the upgrade install program to run just by showing it that diskette as proof of purchase of the older product. It saves reinstalling a long chain of updates to obsolete software when you require a fresh reinstall. Microsoft products are often soothed just by seeing diskette (1.) of older products.
