scale
A major concern when writing a Java app using only a small test case is what will happen to it under heavy real life loads. In other words will it scale well. We can mathematically predict the scaling behaviour of various sorting algorithms, lookup algorthims, and searching algorithms. For various databases and servlet wombs we know from experience just what sorts of loads they can handle.

Scaling an image refers to making it bigger or smaller.

Scaling a graph refers to finding axes that will neatly cover the current data.

Scale also means a ballpark estimate of the size of a problem.

Scale also refers to flake-like insects that attach themselves to the bark of plants in computer offices.
