redirection
The STDOUT and STDERR output of programs usually goes to the console. You can however direct it instead to a file, which is called redirection. You can also redirect it as the input to another program, such as the more utility which displays the input a page at a time. That is called piping. This is particularly useful in dealing with programs like javac.exe and java.exe.
