Platform for Internet Content Selection. If you look in the headers of my web pages, you will see gobbledegook that looks like this:

What these do is encode the content of each page, mainly so people can automatically filter out materials they consider unsuited for their children. ICRA (Internet Content Rating Association) (née RSAC) manages the scheme. It is free to use. PICS encoding is actually quite a bit more general than a glorified net nanny, but that is its most common use.
