PicoJava
The smallest of the Sun Java silicon chips. It ran too hot, (took too much electricity) and the project was discontinued, though I think they took another run at it with the Picojava II. You can buy an Ajile board to play with for $300.00 USD from Jstamp. Over a dozen companies now make Java cpus for the embedded market. The advantage is compact code and high speed. Compact code is especially important in low-cost battery-powered devices.
