LAF
Look And Feel. Swing has programmable look and feel. It can be made to look like Motif, Mac etc. The Mac LAF is disabled except for Mac platforms. This is restriction is fairly easy to defang. Just change this method: to this one:

// default look and feel
UIManager.setLookAndFeel( UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeel() );

// cross platform Look and Feel (metal)
UIManager.setLookAndFeel( UIManager.getCrossPlatformLookAndFeelClassName() );

// windows look and feel
UIManager.setLookAndFeel( new com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel() );

// motif look and feel
UIManager.setLookAndFeel( new com.sun.java.swing.plaf.motif.MotifLookAndFeel() );

// metal look and feel
UIManager.setLookAndFeel( new javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel() );

// MacIntosh Look and feel
UIManager.setLookAndFeel( new it.unitn.ing.swing.plaf.macos MacOSLookAndFeel() );

// Kunststoff look and feel
UIManager.setLookAndFeel( new com.incors.plaf.kunststoff.KunststoffLookAndFeel() );

You can also set the default look and feel on the command line:

java -Dswing.defaultlaf=com.incors.plaf.kunststoff.KunststoffLookAndFeel MyClass

You can further improve the look with: JFrame.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated( true );
