JInsight: IBM's free tool for profiling memory usage and visualising where your program spends all its time. Requires IBM Java 1.1 or higher. The documentation is unfriendly. It explains the options as if they were all of equal importance, without any get started quickly tutorial. Further the html documentation uses microscopic type.
