Inprise's (Borland's) Java IDE formerly called Latte. It is similar to Delphi. It does not handle the old JDK 1.0.2, but it does handle Swing, which other similar environments have trouble with. Jbuilder 7, written in pure Java, is available for free download. Install into the default directory it suggests. If you alter it to Program Files\Jbuilder the jbuilder.bat file will fail because of the space in the directory name. Jbuilder is a big IDE, with tools such as a source level debugger and RAD development. 256 MB of RAM is a practical minimum. The personal version is free. The Enterprise version is a whopping $2849.00 USD ($2849.00 USD) per seat. It comes with JDK 1.3. It does not work with JDK 1.4. If you have 1.4 installed it will screw things up so you can't access either version 1.3 or 1.4.

The GUI Builder layout manager supports many different layouts. The way to control which one is to click this in the bottom left panel then change its layout property.

Their website does not work with Opera, possibly because it demands pop-ups which I have configured off.
