fingerprint: The MD-5 and SHA-1 digests of a public key expressed in hex. These fingerprints can be published on the web or in newspapers. If you run the hash algorithm on what purports to be a given public key, then they darn well better come out with the same fingerprint. It is just a scheme to help deter forgery. You can view the fingerprint of certificates using keyman.
