You are here : home : Java Glossary : E words : echo server.

echo server
A server that simply echoes back whatever you send it. This lets you discover what your browser sends in the way of GET and PUT commands for various HTML constructs, or what various Java net commands emit.

The following public echo servers don't show you all the header fields, but they do show you the parameters.

For METHOD="POST", use use ACTION="http://techart.nia.edu.tw/cgi-bin/post-query "

For METHOD="GET", use ACTION="http://techart.nia.edu.tw/cgi-bin/query "

I have written a very simple echo server that just dumps what it receives on the console. It does not even echo back to the browser. It comes with Java source. You can download the Java source to Marty Hall's EchoServer and run it on your own server. You can find others with a Google search on echo server.
