COTS: Commercial Off The Shelf software, sometimes called canned software, as opposed to custom software. As programming costs come down from more advanced languages and coding techniques and from an influx of telecommuting labour in the third world, custom software and customised COTS will become prevalent. Current customised COTS programs include Accpac and Timberline.
