between: When an SQL or Java programmer asks for a number between 1 and 10, he includes the end points 1 and 10 as valid responses. When talking about a random number between 0.0 and 1.0, 0 is included but not 1. How logical! In normal English, sometimes the word between excludes one or both of the end points.
